updated whenever I find time to do it. Hopefully once a week.
8-27-08 - TrumpetBoredom - Not Naked
Anymore
Hey guys, I was farting around online when I found this BADASS shirt!
You know you want to buy one... and, if you do through this
link, TB will get a few extra bucks that will help pay for our webhosting
fees (which are up in November). So, if you like it, buy it. And, if
you are in a Marching Band, they have the full gambit of shirts (click
on Band Geek Hero).
Make sure you use the TrumpetBoredom affiliate link. Send me an e-mail
with your order confirmation number (and that you used TB as an affiliate)
and I'll send you a special TB surprise!
Thanks!
7-24-08 - TrumpetBoredom - Still Huge
in China
Okay, China, seriously. What the heck? 15 GBs of Under
the Sea in the last 4 months? Are you playing it backwards for Satanic
messages?
Duckie Boredom is
still as popular as ever. I'm glad you guys enjoy it!
I realized that I never posted the actual mp3 for The
Office. So, here's a new song!
5-12-08 - TrumpetBoredom - HELLLOOOOO
China
Hey China. You account for 10% of our bandwidth (over 5 gigs worth last
month). What's up? Ready for the Olympics? That's nice. Seriously, I
wish I could read Chinese so I could use the Search Engines they use
to get to TB - I want to see how highly we place on common search strings
(we are oddly low on google when you type in trumpet).
I haven't updated in a while, mainly because DB
has been so insanely popular you guys keep coming back. I must admit,
I love the comic. The artwork is incredible and never ceases to amaze
me. Plus, it helps that I'm a co-star and CW is a funny guy.
Byro had his senior recital a few weeks ago. A lot of you guys say we
can't play in real life... so, here are some clips to shut you up. My
One and Only Love (flugel) and Split
Kick.
TB has a CRAZY summer coming up, with a wedding and a major roadtrip
planned, soI am not sure when we will be recording. However, we will
record SOMETIME this summer. (Or, at least, we better)
3-23-08 - TrumpetBoredom - Atomic Del
Taco Farts
I hope you are all enjoying your Easter Gigs.
As promised, I continue to update TB on all major holidays.
First and foremost, check out DuckieBoredom.
We're four comics in and still incredibly awesome!
3-2-08 - TrumpetBoredom - MUFFIN!
The LONG anticipated (at least for CW and myself) new TB section is
FINALLY READY!!!
Actually, I take that back... it's ready, but it still needs a lot of
work. But, I can't sit on this new TB awesomeness anymore...
Introducing the next greatest thing EVER... Duckie Boredom!!!
You can find this new awesomeness at this link.
I recommend you check it every Sunday.
And, since today is a day of celebration, how about a new tune as well?
This is actually a tune from a past recording session that I kind of
forgot about. Oops. So, continuing with our theme of TV show themes,
here is "Sanford
and Son."
2-22-08 - TrumpetBoredom - Coming March
2nd, 2008!!!!!
I'm REALLY excited to announce the next big TB thing. Or, well, tease
it anyway:
Intrigued? Good. More news to come on March 2nd, 2008! BE HERE!!!
Until then, why not a new tune? Here is the mp3 to the Munsters
theme. To be honest, it's a Frankenstein-esque monster mash-up of
3 different takes. Wow, 2 bad puns in one sentence. I should get an
award. Anyway, you'll notice several subtle differences between the
mp3 and the video.
2-15-08 - TrumpetBoredom - Gooey Expletives
All I can say, is that sometimes, Joe is very, very eloquent. This is
not one of those times. Warning, he swears... so cut out at the end
if you're under 12.
TB's big super secret surprise awesomeness thing is coming soon. I think
we're shooting for the first week of March.
2-9-08 - TrumpetBoredom - Shoutout
Collin and myself want to give a shout out to Wayne
Bergeron, who played an incredible concert with the SBC Big Band
tonight, and also mentioned that he was a fan of our site. That fact
alone made my night, regardless of the sick double D Wayne pasted. (btw,
no better place to be than 3 rows back directly in front of his bell)
Stories from the night: Wayne offered Maynard $2,000 to play on his
CD, but Maynard wouldn't take the check. Wayne forced it in his pocket,
but Maynard never cashed it. "High Clouds and a Chance of Wayne"
was written over 6 innings of baseball by Tom Kubis.
Thanks for checking us out, Wayne!!! And thanks for adding to our Rubber
Duckie collection! We're your biggest fans!
2-7-08 - "Dude...Why.... WHY?!?!?!?"
Nearly every recording session, we finish all of our new tunes, but
still have some chops left. So, we go through and find stuff we want
to re-record out of the book. Then we play this long, 30 minute medley
of past tunes and leave the mic running... it usually sounds awful,
as our chops slowly die and we forget how to read stuff we've already
played. Slowly but surely, songs we meant to re-record to sound better
suddenly sound worse.
This is one of those times. This is late in the set, and we've been
meaning to re-record this for ages. It sounds awful... but there is
an odd, repeatable quality about it. I keep listening to it, and I don't
know why. Elements of it sound good... I think. And we did make
it through in one take...
In other news, if you want to hear something good, I found a version
of Everybody
Loves the Blues by the Future Corps online... check it out!
1-29-08 - TrumpetBoredom - Kings of
YouTube
So, that mystery project I told you about a few days ago has officially
been started on our end. We still have a bit more to do until we premire
it, but I can tell you that it is INCREDIBLE and CW and our friend have
put a lot of time and effort into it. And I know you will enjoy it.
And if you don't, I know we will enjoy making it, which is the whole
point of TB.
I have another YouTube video for you this week. As much as I love to
see our bandwidth numbers rise from month to month, you can't beat the
convenience of YouTube for sharing videos. All told we have over 16,000
video views on YouTube, which is pretty good in my mind.
I usually try to add a story with every song, but there really isn't
one for this. The only part of note is that this is the song we began
our latest recording session with, as it is a good warm-up (read: easy)
tune. So here is TB's version of The Office Theme:
1-21-08
- TrumpetBoredom - We're the Munsters
For some odd reason, TB is one of the first results on a lot of Chinese/Japanese
search engines when you look for music. At least the most clicked songs
are the ones we sound the best on.
As I mentioned previously, Joe wrote an insanely complicated, yet incredible
version of the Munsters theme. It took us a couple of takes to get right
*gasp!* but the final product is worth it. See if you can catch the
two "Haunted Mansion" references!
CW is working on a new project for TB with a friend of ours. While I
haven't seen the final product, from the sound of it, it will be the
next big TB thing. We at TB are really excited to get this project off
the ground, and I will tell you more as soon as I have any information...
Mp3s coming soon.
1-11-08 - TrumpetBoredom - "It
Sounds Like a Mexican Party Over There"
That quote serves two purposes... it was the response of one of CW's
neighbors at TB's first live gigs, and it is a good way of introducing
our next tune! This one was written out by Byro. As the story goes,
I told Byro, our resident jazz trumpeter, to write out a "classical/lyrical"
version of Rubber Duckie as a joke. He decided to go Latin with RD,
instead. Check it out!
By the way, not to put down other ensembles or anything, but every other
version of Family Guy on YouTube sucks but ours. Really.
Mp3's are coming, I promise. We have over 230 of them, keep yourself
busy with those for a while. ;-)
1-5-08 - TrumpetBoredom - We're on Our
Umlaut
Well, the 18th TB recording session went off without a hitch. Well,
no, I take that back. The mic didn't work, our new 4th player forgot
the starting time, and CW was sick. So, a lot of this recording session
was based on improvisation... We used a digital camera to record video,
and the internal mic on Joe's laptop to record audio. It wasn't a perfect
solution, but it worked.
Either way, we got a lot recorded, and we had a lot of fun doing it,
as always. Byro even brought us a Double C as a Christmas gift.
To start, we re-recorded "Family Guy" for fun.
I threw it up on YouTube, but some people like to have the full file,
so click
here (WMV, 9.2Mb)
More new stuff to come soon. And, if anyone has a suggestion for a good
way to rip an mp3 from an AVI, let me know.
12-25-07 - TrumpetBoredom - Merry
Christmas / From the Archives
It always bugged me that websites didn't update on Christmas, especially
when I had several hours between parties... so, as a rule, I try to
update TB on Christmas day. That, and I feel bad for the Jews.
4 years ago, we recorded Romeo and Juliet on one recording session,
and a Phantom of the Opera medley on another. For whatever reason, I
stuck the two songs together, despite the fact that we recorded them
three weeks apart from each other. In any event, whenever you listen
to Phantom, Romeo plays first... I'm too lazy to fix Phantom, but now
you can hear TB's version of Romeo
and Juliet on its own. Yay!
Whilist digging through the archives, I also found some other stuff
we never uploaded... because it sucked. Joe wrote out Super Mario Bros
2 back in 2003, but it was hard to play (damn C trumpets)... Joe and
Byro never made it to the end, so I never put it online. But, since
I like to embarrass them, here is TB's version of
SMB 2 on C.
You've heard us play Penny Lane a hundred times, because we have and
people love it. I'm only posting this version because (1) it was recorded
around Christmas, and (2) there is a story behind it. Joe's neighbor
knocked on the door to deliver a gift in the middle of TB recording
another song... we thought she came over to complain (we were recording
at like 8pm that night, if I remember correctly). She said we sounded
great, so we decided to play a song to feature Joe, since it was his
neighbor. We pulled out Penny Lane, and nailed it, as always. It's one
of our staple tunes. So, here is Penny
Lane from 2004.
Finally, now that you have re-heard Penny Lane... did you know the Beatles
originally recorded it without the Picc solo?!? Blasphemy! Check
it out.
New session on January 3rd!! About 5 new songs ready to go, with some
surprises in the works as well.
Much love,
12-7-07 - TrumpetBoredom - An Important
Christmas Message: DAMNIT!!!!
Just an FYI, this will most likely be the last update until the next
recording session in January. I plan to do some work on the interior
pages (like making them work), but nothing worth mentioning on the main
page.
Oddly enough, I got several positive responses from the full-length
recording session. That one is one of the more interesting ones, but
I do have one more worth posting. It is a recording session comprised
entirely of us nahing Christmas tunes. I include it because the banter
between Joe, CW, and I make the Beatles Christmas albums seem like the
waste of an hour, and to me, nothing is funnier than nahing.. especially
when we do it VERY poorly (is that possible). Joe and I aren't really
big on Christmas music. I think it is part of being a trumpet player,
Christmas songs are either really long and tiring, or really slow and
boring. Plus, it's the same stuff over and over. You never really play
that one AMAZING arrangement of Jingle Bells. It's always some silly
medley. This is why TB has not done any Christmas tunes... except for
the Nahing....So, be prepared to laugh, and hear your
favorite Christmas songs destroyed by a TB nahing session. (27MB,
mp3)
(Skip ahead to the 2 minute mark to really get going...)
Also on that recording is Brown Eyed Girl with a SAXOPHONE on 4th. 2
SAXOPHONES on TRUMPET Boredom?!?!?!?!? Ewwwwwww.
Also, I wanted to comment on Disneyland. Disneyland does a lot of things
right this time of year. The have good decorations, a nice fireworks
display, brassy Christmas music throughout the park, SNOW on Main Street,
and LIVE trumpet players marching in the parade. But what I want to
mention is the annual Candlelight ceremony Disney does, where they include
8 fanfare trumpets blaring over a 100 piece orchestra and 150 piece
choir. Nothing says Christmas like hearing Christmas tunes done by an
ensemble this large, and by hearing the fanfare trumpets play the Hallelujah
Chorus with the range of pedal F to double F. If that isn't hot, I don't
know what is. So, I am tipping my hat to Disney for doing this right.
On that same note, for the love of God, every time I have played or
seen an orchestra perform the Hallelujah Chorus, SOMEONE (usually a
flute player) falls in the hole near the end. Seriously, what the hell?
Is the song that hard, or are you that bored where you just play the
same thing over and over until someone stops you? I've seen this performed
by high schools and world-class orchestras, and it happens EVERY time.
Makes me wonder if it is actually written into the song.
12-1-07 - TrumpetBoredom - We're the
Arrow.
Hey kids,
Sorry I haven't posted lately... school is busy, yadda yadda yadda.
I decided to try something new. You've heard all of the "cuts"
from a recording session, but what about the ENTIRE tape? I used to
run the tape the entire recording session back in 2003, and I just dug
a few of them up. So, here is 48 minutes of TB awesomeness. Included:
rehearsals, yo momma jokes, insults, and boredom at its best. Clicky
(55 MB MP3)
We are only a few short weeks from the next TB recording session, and
the stuff Joe has written will blow your socks off. You may think I
am over hyping it, but his arrangement of "The Munsters" will
make you spontaneously spout out babies. Really.
There was a Wayne Bergeron master class up at USC 2 weeks ago. At it,
Joe and I learned that Wayne used to have a recurring nightmare that
his head would explode from using too much pressure on the horn, that
Wayne has never heard his Rocky feature in Rocky VI (he had to play
it in front of the entire orchestra impromptu), Wayne had a hard time
when he first learned trumpet because he naturally played everything
up two octaves, but didn't know it. He could hit a double C before he
could hit a middle C. He physically cannot play a G#. He has to fake
it. He also said it's the player, not the equipment that hits the high
notes. "It's the Indian, not the arrow."
11-3-07 - TrumpetBoredom - Back Again!!
Well, here we are on our new site. This place is pretty awesome, and
it will allow me to add even more stuff to TB. Of course, right now
all the interior pages are messed up again, and I'm not in the mood
to fix them right now. To be honest, they'll probably stay messed up
like that until Thanksgiving Break (it'll be the only free time I have).
As a treat on our new server, I am goign upload a new tune! This song
is called, "Lovefool."
I doubt you know the song by name, but you'll recognize it as soon as
the melody kicks in. The tempo for this song is listed as, "Demented;
blonde." He decided to mix this with a little Santana, too.
We are working on the next set of awesome TB tunes for the Winter recording
session. This is what is on tap so far: The Night Before (arranged by
me! Wow!), and The Munster theme (incredible arrangement by Joe). Of
course, we will also have a 6th adaptation of Rubber Duckie. Joe also
has some unfinished tunes he is working on finishing, as well.
10-31-07 - TrumpetBoredom - Going Down
Hey kids, this is just a warning: TB will be offline sometime in early
November. I am working on getting a new webhost, so if you know a good
one, or you ARE a webhost who wants my money, let me know.
Minimum requirements: 2-4 GBs of space, 50GB of bandwidth. And that's
it, really.
We'll be back online as soon as I get a new, decent, host.
10-20-07 - TrumpetBoredom - The Loser
Gets Nothing
We get a lot of flack here at TB because we don't sound our "best"
when we record something. Now, we don't have to prove anything to anyone,
but I can say that TB is made up of some of the best musicians in Southern
California. I've said it a million times, if you don't get what we do
on our website, than you really don't understand what it is to play
trumpet. What I'm trying to say, is that we can sound amazing when we
want to.
Ever hear of a band called ABBA? I am sure your parents have. Joe heard
one of their songs, and decided to record it. Now, it's been a while
since he did this, and I've forgotten the particulars, but I believe
he made this up as he went, never writing the parts down. He's a monster
like that.
So here is Joe, playing ABBA's, "The
Winner Takes it All." This might be one of the prettiest things
on TB.
Sorry for the lack of updates, but I've been busy. I know I saw that
a lot, but I have been.
Also, Joe played a concert @ USC with John FREAKIN Williams. Wow.
10-7-07 - TrumpetBoredom - Part Dos
Hey guys, I don't have much to say today, but I wanted to share a link
with you. Seeing as how it is Marching Band season and all, I thought
I would post one of my absolutely FAVORITE Drum Corps shows of all time.
Madison
Scouts, 1996. Even if you're not into Drum Corps, the ending is
pretty darn incredible. Oh, looks like I also found their 1988
show, when they won with Malaguena. What can I say, I'm a sucker for
Malaguena.
September/October 2007 - TrumpetBoredom
- 5 YEARS OLD!!!
If you would have told me 5 years ago that TB would still be around,
I'd laugh at you. It was a joke back then. I had no idea it would become
so popular... no idea that low-quality recordings of us playing high
notes and overblowing the mic would lead to over 30GB of bandwidth transferred
per month. All told, we've transfered nearly 1.8TB of data. Which translates
to roughly 610,000 songs, assuming they are 3MBs each!
I had no idea this would keep growing...But I am thankful that it did.
As we hit the half-decade mark, I went back and realized how much has
changed over the years. I went through hundreds of pictures, nearly
the same amount of songs, and countless memories in order to produce
a video tribute to TB through the years. And, what song would be better
to do this with than our first hit, Rubber Duckie.
So, here it is: A 5 Year Rubber Duckie Retrospective, TB style.
Finally, I'd like to thank some people and get overly sentimental:
I want to thank my fellow bandmates at TrumpetBoredom. I want to thank
you all for letting me come along for the ride. I want to thank you
all for keeping this going, despite all that has gone on in our lives.
You're my best friends, and I can only hope we continue to make incredible
music and memories with each other. I still remember my excitement when
our first tune came online, and I still feel that same excitement every
time we get together to record.
To our friends and family: Thanks for putting up with us. Thanks
for inspiring us to play, and keeping us going when we didn't want to.
I want to thank Joe's parents for giving up their house 3 or 4 times
a year to let us take over your home. I'd like to thank the Newberg
family for letting us play for you and break sound ordinances.
To our fans: Quite simply, 4 guys making horrible recordings
in a hallway would never have transferred 600,000 or more songs without
all of you. Your comments, suggestions, and your recommendations to
your friends and bandleaders keep us going and make our day every time.
Thanks to everyone! Expect more GREAT music in the future.
8-31-07
- TrumpetBoredom - Yo
Hello my little children.
I finally broke down and uploaded all of the videos in our videos section
to YouTube. It is the best way to get free exposure... and you
never know, we may be the next video to get 15 million hits because
of it. Also, I figured it would free up some room on the ol' server
for us to put up some more songs. I used to think people wanted to download
the full file when it came to videos, but times have changed. Please
rate, comment, and share all of our videos with your buddies: Legends of Zelda Green Hornet Tijuana Taxi I Wanna Hold Your
Hand
8-16-07
- TrumpetBoredom - We're in Duckberg
I'm sick of listening to other band's work on my own website... so,
now it's time for us again!
I gave Joe some fakebooks of mine that I had purchased YEARS ago...
he's played nearly every movie/TV song from them on the piano over the
years, and every now and then he'll find a way to make a song work.
This is what happened with "Ducktales."
Hey, we got a pyramid to work for once! (kind of)
8-9-07 - TrumpetBoredom - I'm back!!!
I told you I'd be gone for a while. We're having a bit of a summer lull
here @ TB, but today I am going to break that lull by doing something
I love to do: steal and promote someone else's work!
I just got a demo-track to the new Gordon Goodwin CD... and, it's a
TRUMPET feature! It's called "Backrow
Politics" and it comes courtesy of my buddy Gio @ LaStudioMusicians.com.
I wasn't going to release the song, but since Gordon let him do it on
his site, I guess I can too. So, get this while you can before I get
a nasty e-mail.
7-19-07 - TrumpetBoredom - Harry Dies
in the Next Book... probably.
I really wasn't planning on updating today.
I got a Wii, Harry Potter comes out on Saturday, and I've got a birthday
coming up. I've got a lot going on. I decided to update because I probably
WON'T update again until August. Live with it.
I did a MAJOR update to the song
history section. I really hope you give this a read through, as
it was a lot of work to put together. The section contains tons of TB
history and lore. Most of our most famous songs are listed there, with
funny stories to go along with them. I know it is very "text heavy,"
but, comeon, I'm a freakin History Major, writing a lot is what I do.
But I promise you will enjoy parts of it. I know I had major nostalgia
going back through all of that.
7-13-07 - TrumpetBoredom - Typhoid Matty
I got an e-mail that said, "Matt, you promised an update, what
happened?" I lost 8 pounds in the course of 4 hours by having liquid
leave the nearest available orifice violently. It honestly has taken
me several days to recover... ever thrown up so much you've gone delirious?
I have.
That, and I had to play Psychonauts again.
I updated the pictures
page a few days ago, as the MySpacers know, I just never got around
to updating the main page for you non-believers out there. Due to a
strange sorting mix-up, some of the captions are out of order. So if
you go through them chronologically (and not just skim for pictures
of Joe shirtless), you'll recognize that my odd comment might not make
sense. Skip around a bit and you'll find out why. This will be the last
time I use sequential humor in image posting.
By the end of summer I should have all the interior pages fixed.
6-21-07 - TrumpetBoredom - The Bride
of TrumpetBoredom
Yo.
I had to work for 14 straight days, and this is the first chance I've
had to update... so, sorry. But, then again, it's not like you are paying
us to play anyway, right?
A lot of big things are happening for TB right now, we're working on
getting another major gig (a paying one, at that) and I am in the process
of working with one of our adoring fans to re-design the site and create
a new listing technique for all of the songs. So, that will be fun.
One of my hopes with TrumpetBoredom is that you enjoy our music, but
also look up the song we are covering. I've learned of numerous bands
from getting suggestions from our fans and from fellow band mates. Every
time Joe writes out a song I don't know, the first thing I do is try
to find it. More often than not, the song rocks, and I get a chance
to expand my musical taste.
Such is the case with this week's song,
"Last
Kiss." A song from the 60s that was covered by Pearl Jam, reaching
#2 in the US charts in 1999. Give it a listen, then check out the original.
6-7-07 - TrumpetBoredom - Back in Black
So yes, I took a significant amount of time off from TB. It wasn't anything
personal, I don't hate any of you. I have just been that busy. From
finals, to graduation, to post-graduation parties, I've been busy, as
have all of us here at TB. But, we're back and presumably better than
ever. Too early to tell.
I am still working on the interior pages... most are still messed up
for the time being. I plan to knock out a couple a day over the next
2 weeks so the site will be back to full capability soon. It is a long,
slow, boring process of backing up files, re-writing them, editing them,
then posting them, double checking that they work, then putting everything
online. It doesn't help that my organizational skills have changed significantly
over the last 3 years, and I am going through at least 3 years worth
of old files to re-do the site. But enough about my bitching.
What has surprised me the most over these 2 months is the fact that
our bandwidth did not tank, as I thought it would. If anything, we've
remained as popular throughout our hiatus as we were when I was updating
weekly. As happy as I am that TB has become a self-sufficient entity,
it made me feel a little un-needed. But, at least I know when TB does
a major tank-job, or when we are found out to be frauds, or in the event
of my untimely death, TB will still remain popular.
OKAY. Now what I know you are all here for: A NEW TUNE! Joe wrote out
this awesome jazz arrangement of Winnie
the Pooh, and gave CW the lead line. Check it out!
For whatever reason, we've been REALLY popular in Asia lately. Especially
China. The only problem is, they really seem to love Billie
Jean. Something in the range of 3 gigs of downloads on that one
song alone in the past 2 months. What the hell?!?!?
4-6-07 - TrumpetBoredom - Dead... for
now.
But will rise again... but this time not in three days, but 6 weeks.
My reason
for this is that (1) I am out of material to post, to be honest, and
(2) I am too damn busy to actually post anything. So this will be the
last update until mid-May, when we record again. I'd apologize for being
busy... but I'm 6 weeks away from my Bachelor's Degree in history...
and that entails a crapload of work. Don't take 6 classes, kids. But,
as Ringo Starr said, "You gotta pay your dues if you wanna sing
the blues, and you know it don't come easy."
The PHP scripting on the site is all broken, still. If you are good
at PHP and want to help fix a simple problem, please e-mail
me.
So, until the next update, here is a lot of stuff to keep you occupied:
0. Check out the mainpage for our infamous Easter
image.
1.
Addicting game. Try
to beat Joe's score of around 6,000.
2. Another awesome game...
last episode of season 1 comes out in May!
3. For those of you that can read, check out our two favorite authors:
Simon
R Green and Jim Butcher.
4. Check TB on MySpace
for any and all small updates (random trumpet videos, news, etc) It's
easier to post it there. This will also be the first place to go to
find out when we will update again.
This is
what is on tap for the next recording session
1. Winnie the Pooh (awesome original arrangement [CW feature])
2. Last Kiss (My feature, yikes!)
3. Loverfool (awesome mix of Santana and this other band you've never
heard of)
4. Material Girl (yes, a Madonna song)
5. Duck Tales (you'll love this one)
6. I Saw Her Standing There (40th anniversary of the Summer of Love\Sgt.
Pepper album... so I am writing a Beatles tune)
7. Re-record of Main Street Electrical Parade (I know it's one of our
best, but we missed a lot the first time)
8. A fixed website... maybe a redesign?
Plus, we
are doing a live show 5 days after the recording session! And maybe
even a second session in the summer! So we'll have a busy summer of
updates!
Wow, that's a lot of new tunes. But, we can still do more! Send all
requests to matt@trumpetboredom.com
Thanks for all the support... I'll make it up to you guys this summer,
I promise!
3-17-07 - TrumpetBoredom
- An Ode to a Third Player
To be honest, I really don't know when I wrote this parody. It stemed
from another parody, which Joe and I switched to be the Maynard Tribute.
It was going to be titled Double C, as well. The lyrics reflect how
I feel as a third trumpet player: useless. I set the lyrics to "Yesterday"
by the Beatles, because it has the same sort of feel. This song is especially
significant to me because it is how I feel whenever Joe and Byro nail
the piss out of some high note. Man I hate them!!!
Coincidentally, this song has been recorded over 3000 times. But doing
a parody of it has to be in the low teens... so, I'm still original.
Now, please remember, I'm not a singer. So if you hear something funky,
it was Joe on piano. Darn him.
Double C
How I wish I had a Double C.
Those lead players wouldn't laugh at me
Oh if I had, a Double C.
Suddenly,
There's a lead chart right in front of me.
The director put his faith in me
My range had left, so suddenly.
There's some
High School Kid playing notes above the staff.
He Has
Monster Chops, that I know I'll never have.
Double C
How I wish I had a Double C.
The gigs would come so readily,
Oh if I had a Double C.
There's some
Big Band Gig in a bar accross from town.
They need
A lead player so I had to turn them down.
Double
C
How I wish I had a Double C.
Those lead players wouldn't laugh at me
Oh if I had, a Double C.
In case you're wondering, this is how every third player feels all the
time. So give them a hug.
3-4-07 - TrumpetBoredom - Busy
Sorry guys. I'm 2.5 months away from a degree, and right now school
is kicking my butt. As such, updates may be infrequent until late May.
But, then again, since most of our fans are in college, you should be
studying as well.
We are already getting prepared for our next recording session. Joe
has finished two tunes, and is working on a third as we speak. I think
you'll like what we have in store for the next recording session.
For now, how about a new tune? This is a song from a band who could
not come up with a cool/creative name, so they just used all of their
last names. Not as cool, but a good song, none the less: Don't
Pull Your Love Out On Me Baby.
Keep checking our MySpace bulletins for future updates, as they may
or may not be regular for the forseeable future.
2-17-07 - TrumpetBoredom - Lover Boy
In honor of the martyred Saint Valentine, we are going put up a song
about LUV. And, well... since this is TB, it will be about gay love.
Because, at TB, we are nothing but Good
Old Fashioned Lover Boy(s). This is actually an AMAZING Queen song,
and it was a pain in the butt to play (6 trpt parts)... but I think
we did an awesome job. And so will you.
The Whale and I are seeing Doc on Sunday the 25th. We're working on
meeting him/getting his autograph. I'll let you know how that works
out.
Random Trumpet Videos:
-He biffs it at the end, but pretty awesome rendition of the Green

-"This is not really jazz, but it's some fancy Trumpet
playing." !@#$ you, Wynton. Forget what I said after I saw you
live, I hate you again.
2-11-07 - TrumpetBoredom - Repeats Itself
So, I asked Joe a while back if he has ever heard a song on the radio
and thought it would be good to do on TB, only to realize he has already
written it out. He said no, he usually tends to remember. Well, on 1/24/07
Joe was sitting in his car and he heard a song, and thought it would
be great for TB. Turns out he had already written it. I bring up the
story because I found another version of it we recorded but I never
put up on here: it's essentially the same as the old one, but cleaner
and it sounds better.
On a side note, it is weird hearing stuff from 2004. I probably never
posted this because it sounds almost EXACTLY like the other version
we did. See if you can tell
the difference.
Remember Robby? Our ill-fated 4th trumpet player who mysteriously disappeared?
Well, I found him. And look what he has gotten himself into... oh Robert,
what will we ever do with you? video

Leave it to European Trumpet players to be bored with their part when
a god like Vizzutti
plays. I hate Europe.
2-3-07 - TrumpetBoredom - Suddenly I
See
I just realized that I forgot to put that actual tune up from 3 weeks
ago. Oops.
No time for more updates today, sorry. I have 18 books for one class
this semester... oh, and I'm taking 6 classes.
1-21-07 - TrumpetBoredom - Tap and Shout
I just finished getting CPR certified, and this statement was on the
wall. It's how you check to see if someone is conscious or unconscious,
when they are laying in a dead heap on the floor after you hear a crash
or a thud.
The whole time I kept thinking about which TB tune I'd post... the conclusion
became obvious: Twist
and Shout!
The story behind the song is simple: I found it in a piano book, and
realized that it could work for TB. And, seeing as how my family loves
it when we play Beatles Tunes for our yearly gig, this song fit perfectly.
I wrote it out directly from the book, and sent it to Joe for ideas.
He liked it, but promptly re-wrote most of it to make it work better.
So, I am still going to call this tune the first TB tune I wrote, with
significant help from Joe (wow, we sound like the Beatles already!).
Perhaps this will be the start of a new Ferruzzo/Mullen song writing
dynasty. But probably not, school starts tomorrow.
1-13-07 - TrumpetBoredom - Suddenly
I Pee
First and foremost, Wayne's CD is out... and it is amazing. If it isn't
at your local music store, and you don't want to wait for Amazon, you
can buy it on iTunes RIGHT NOW!!!!
In TB news, we are doing something a little weird. In fact, I almost
feel dirty saying it. We are doing a song that when we recorded it was
in the Top 40, and is now located at #45 on the charts. I could be wrong
(but I doubt it) but this song is the only song we've done that was
recorded and popular within the year we did it. Wow.
I am working on making a bunch of cool stuff for TB, including sticky
car decals, full sized posters of our logo, mousepads, etc. If I can
find a way to make them at a decent cost, and if you want them, I'll
consider selling them. But, there is nothing cooler than our Rubber
Duckie logo at 36x24.
1-8-07 - TrumpetBoredom - Waynard Tomorrow!!!
Yes. Tomorrow Wayne's new CD comes out. I made the mistake of pre-ordering
it from Amazon, so God only knows when it will actually come to my house.
It's okay though, I've heard one track already and it was awesome, so
I can hold out for another few days. We all know we've been holding
out since last January. A CD that has been pushed back an entire year
just baffles me. Every trumpet player I know is foaming at the mouth
in anticipation, yet the bring it out AFTER Christmas to get a bigger
market. Who else but Trumpet players/other musicians will be buying
this? Wouldn't the Christmas market be the best time for someone to
pick something up and go, "Hey, this might be cool?" The CD
is going to make the production cost money back in the sales from trumpet
players alone, no need make us wait for months for no reason.
Anyway, enough about that rant. I know it wasn't Wayne's choice anyway,
and we'll just have to live with it.
2 things happen in January. I update TB with new stuff from our December
recording sessions, and I update the disclaimer page at the bottom,
which none of you read anyway.
Here are the two songs from the past radio shows, minus all of our brilliant
analysis. So

- TrumpetBoredom - Tribute to Maynard
If there is one thing that happened in 2006, it is the passing of people,
both great and horrible.
On August 23, 2006, we lost a very important man in the Trumpet world,
one who will never be replaced. At first we were uncertain how to pay
homage to such a pivotal figure in music, and to someone whose music
has always been enjoyed by us here at TB (2 of our first 10 songs we
recorded were Chameleon and MacArthur Park). Then Joe revised the lyrics
to a parody I had written a year ago, and made it about Maynard. It
was perfect.
This song is our Tribute to Maynard, with the 4 original members of
TB all being involved. Joe and myself wrote the song, Collin sang, Byro
played the trumpet solo, and Joe, of course, was on piano. Collin's
vocal is amazing, the solo is perfect, and the trumpet harmonies in
the background are arguably the best Byro, Joe and I have played together
on this website.
Lyrics: Let It Be Maynard
Written by: Joe Ferruzzo and Matt Mullen Parody of: Let It Be, the Beatles.
When I
find myself in times of trouble,
my friend Maynard plays for me,
with his chops of iron, Double C.
When the
mic is hot
And there are changes there in front of me,
I have my inspiration, Double C.
Double
C, double C, I just play a double C.
I take a tip from Maynard, double C.
I'm standing
near the altar and
The choir's looking straight at me,
I cross myself and pray for a
Double C.
Mahler
5 is rough and
The trombones attempt to bury me.
I take a tip from Maynard,
Double C.
Double
C, double C, I just nail (paste) a double C.
So give it up for Maynard, double C.
(x2)
(solo break)
Double
C, Double C, Oh Give me that Double C
I take it up an octave Double C
And when
my eyes get cloudy,
My friend Maynard smiles down on me,
Gives me chops of iron,
Double C.
And though
He may be gone now,
There's no end to his great leg-a-cy.
Raise your bells for Maynard,
Double C
Double
C, double C,
That distinctive Double C
He'll live on forever,
Double C
Double
C, double C,
Double C, Double C
There will be no other,
Double C
Double
C, Double C,
Double C, Double C,
You won't be forgotten

- TrumpetBoredom - Merry Christmas!
- 2 Updates in One!!
Yo. I updated the main image to reflect the holiday. Like my attempt
at Christmas lights? Yeah, they're hard to make in Photoshop.
Here is TBRadio Show Episode 18. This Radio Show is devoted to CW and
the tune he wrote out for TB: So
in Love. It's different than
our usual style, as CW likes to pick different chords... so it has a
cool sound to it. The Tango feel is awesome, too. This is our longest
Radio Show to date... but I think it is funny. Plus, the playing on
the song is awesome. So check it out, and come back the middle of next
week for the actual song, so you can listen to it over and over like
Joe and I have!
The recording session yesterday was amazing, but before I send you any
of that stuff, here is the full tune from the last radio show: Rubber
Duckie Acapella.
Oh, and don't forget to celebrate a Trumpeter's
Christmas!! Note, this was done by some guys in Florida, not us.
12-16-06 - TrumpetBoredom - Here's Your
Change
Well, school is finally over... for like 2 weeks... so now we can get
back to the TB stuff. We had a pre-recording session recording session
yesterday, where we worked on 2 new vocal songs, and a NEW RADIO SHOW!!!!!
We haven't done a radio show in at least 2 years. Possibly longer. So
it took us 3 tries until we got it right. Unfortunately, on our second
try the mic didn't work, so we lost one of the funniest running gags
ever... Now it shall live on forever in the headline. Anyway, here is
the radio show for the new, and really really awesome, Rubber
Duckie Acapella.
We've got a recording session on Friday. Here's what on the agenda:
-Trumpet Solo for Double C parody
-Twist and Shout
-Suddenly I See
-Lover Boy (Queen)
-Don't Worry Baby
-Don't Pull Your Love Out on Me
And, of course, all the other random crap we come up with when we record.
So far, in 2006 we've transfered over well 315GBs of data. If we assume
the average song is about 3Mbs, that means we've transferred roughly
107,520 songs in 2006. I know in 2005 we
did roughly the same transfer amount... so in the last 2 years we've
transfered about 215,000 songs.
Give or take about 10,000. That amazes me. I want to thank each and
every one of you guys who visits us daily and downloads our songs!
Awful Sleigh Ride

TB ever does a CD, you can bet your bottom dollar I'll find a way to
put a secret message in there. Wait, did I ruin the suprise for you?
11-20-06 - Taking Another Vacation \

Yo.
I know that most of our visitors are in high school or college, so I
know that final exams/projects/concerts/papers are all due in the coming
weeks. That being said, TB is going to take another well deserved minor
break until the middle of December. I know, it sucks, but, check out
the workload I've got to mull through in the next week:
Yeah, pity me.
Anyway, you don't care about that. You just want our slave labor for
your entertainment. Don't worry, we know what we are to the rest of
the world. So, here it is!
2 things to hold you over for just under 4 weeks:
1. Another LIVE version of Fraggle
Rock where I pretend I can play high.
2. Plus the rest of the (bad) songs from our gig in labor day!
a. Lady
Madonna
b. Penny

c. Rubber

11-12-06 - TrumpetBoredom - Back in
the US of A!
Hey kids... I'm home! I went to Mexico for a couple of days to get the
smell of Southern California out of my nose for a little while.
Sometime over the next couple of weeks we plan to get a recording session
in... although we have no new written tunes to record. We do, however,
have 3 more vocal parodies to work on. The vocal parodies are a lot
of fun to write and to sing, and they seem to be pretty popular, so
as long as ideas come to us, we'll keep doing them.
I also came up with a great new TB project that will be finalized on
the next recording session. I think you will all like it.
As for new stuff, we re-recorded Under
the Sea at the July recording session. This song will be our downfall:
Joe wrote a hard part for every member of the ensemble, making it too
hard to play... but the song sounds so awesome in Finale. Ah well. Thanks
to the art of multi-tracking it sounds better than the first
time we tried it. And this time I didn't 'fall in the hole' at the
end like I did last time.
Sorry, I have to cut it short this week. I'll make it up to you next
week.
10-22-06 - TrumpetBoredom
- Time off
Hey kids, I'm taking some time off... so, no more updates until the
second weekend in November. So, I'll make this update a little
bigger than normal to hold you off.
Why do I get to take time off? Remember last semester when I posted
the 27 books I had for one paper? Well, I have 60 books now.
I received several e-mails from people asking us to do more Nahing.
I can't figure out WHY, but, we complied either way. Actually, it was
just Joe. I believe he recorded this while he was sitting along in his
empty new apartment. Here it is: More
Than a Nahing.
Oh, and I'll release another live song individually because it requires
a bit of an explanation. This song is actually part of another 9 minute
compilation that Joe had put together of one of the greatest musicals
ever: Les Mis. Well, my uncle and I had recently seen it, and he wanted
to do a song from it with us. Well, long story short, I told him Joe
already did it, so he asked to play it. Not wanting to play a 9 minute
song live, we decided to play the easiest section. So easy, that Byron
took a break on 2nd and let Carlos play it... in the wrong key. Hence
why it sounds all weird until Joe yells, "Major!" on one of
his 16th note rests. I love TB. So here it is: Master
of the House, live!
Joe and I are seeing Wynton play a jazz set on Friday. Now, seasoned
TB veterans will know my feelings about Wynton... but I am still excited
to see him live. I hear his shows are pretty cool, plus it is in a small
setting... maybe I'll see if he'll autograph something... if I only
owned one of his CDs. Maybe I'll go buy his classical CD and have him
sign that.
Oh, and have a happy Halloween!

ASAP. It is getting GREAT reviews. If you buy it and can prove to me
that you did, I'll send you an ultra special TB secret song that you'll

but the game is so awesome that you will want to buy it anyway. Or so
I've heard, I haven't played it yet. Bond

Herb Alpert re-released his famous Whipped Cream

10-14-06 - TrumpetBoredom - Finally,
a Reason to Watch "Ellen"
... Because Byro rocks the house down! TB MySpacers know the story,
but for the rest of you, Byro got called in with the CSF Jazz Band to
play a song on "Ellen" announcing her retirement or something...
I don't know, I wasn't paying attention. Either way, he got to play,
"New York, New York." And, while they faded out on his F the
first time and cut it out completely the second time, it still rocks.
Go Byro!
Here's the video! Part
1 (AVI 31 megs) and Part
2 (AVI 22 megs). Both require Divx.
Part 1 has the F, part 2 does not.
Oh, and Joe turned 22 on Friday! Congrats bro!

- TrumpetBoredom - In Da Paper!
I have no good excuse for why this update is so late... but I have tons
of bad ones! Namely, school is kicking my ass. Live with it.
This is the last of the live gig songs that I think came off well enough
to list by itself. The funny part is, we were all dead after the first
minute of the song, and my Uncle Jeff stepped in on drums to wake us
(and most likely the audience) up. He drummed the song perfectly, as
he was alive when the song was first released in the US. Even though
I think he was only 4 at the time. So, even though you've heard this
song before, I
still wanna hold your hand... with drums.
There isn't a person who visits this site that will tell me Arturo
played this better than Joe did. Even with the help of John Williams.
Hey, we were in the paper! If you missed the article (ie, you don't
go to the greatest college in Southern California), here it is:
From the Saddleback College Lariat 9-19-2006
"Trumpet
anti-boredom"
Five musicians make modern music of classical brass instruments
By: Taryn
Bruette
The music
group Trumpet Boredom found its roots in a guy with a broken heart and
three guys playing high notes until they couldn't see straight.
Trumpet Boredom is a band of series musicians (three of the four members
are music perofrmance majors) who spend up to eight hours a day practicing
a lot of so called "boring" classical music.
"We show the fun side of playing the instrument outside of the
classical world," said Mat (sic) Mullen, Saddleback alumnus. "We
took Carnival of Venice, one of the most difficult and popular trumpet
pieces, and took it up an octave and screwed it up; but we were sick
to death of playing it the 'right' way.
"I think that's one of the reasons people like our group - we don't
necessarily do things the way they were intended," Mullen continued.
"Besides, what better way to blow off some steam when you're working
on some orchestral piece than to take it up an octave?"
In September of 2002, two guys gathered in attempt to console Byron
Panopio, Cal State Fullerton student and music performance major, who
had recently broken up with his girlfriend.
As fate would have it, all three friends had their trumpets with them
and, for the sake of having fun, began blasting notes up an octave.
Joe Ferruzzo, a 21 year old music performance major at USC, brought
out a tape recorder, which laid down the beginnings of what has turned
into a four-year project.
"Amazingly enough, it sounded pretty good, so we decided to record
it, "Mullen said. "We used a microphone and a four deck tape
recorder that could only record a little bit at a time. It wasn't the
best quality, but it was fun."
While the group's name 'Trumpet Boredom' implies various trumpet riffs,
the four-piece group does have a baritone saxophone to lay down the
bass lines.
Collin Watson, 22 (sic), music perofmrnace, was filling in for the fourth
trumpet player and ended up as a permanent member of the group.
"He made us sound mroe like a band," Mullen said.
In the weeks following the original recording session, Mullen, Panopio,
Watson and Ferruzzo gathered to record a few more songs after the success
of the first recording session.
All of their recordings, from TB and video game themes to the Macarena
(sic) and popular pop tunes, can be found on their website: trumpetboredom.com.
All of their music is free to listen to.
"I believe in the freedom of the internet," Mullen said. "[I
believe that] nothing online should come at a charge. The internet is
a wonderful promotional tool! I'm not saying you should steal, but I
think if a Website offers services, they should be free."
Trumpet Boredom has recorded songs every summer and winter since the
first success in 2002, and has gone from transferring one gigabyte of
music a month in 2002 to up to 20 gigabytes in January 2006.
All the music TrumpetBoredom plays had been arranged completely by ear
by Ferruzzo.
"He's amazingly talented," Mullen said. "It's pretty
disgusting how talented he is."
Ferruzzo has written over 150 songs for Trumpet Boredom.
Ferruzzo can receive an MP3 or a CD of a song and can have the arrangments
for three trumpets and a saxophone to a four minute song in under five
hours.
"Arranging is extremely hard to do, and he makes it look easy,"
Mullen said. "And he does it extremely well."
Their group name was intended as a joke, but it later evolved into what
they represent: a bunch of guys getting bored with 'real' music and
covering pop and cartoon theme songs.
"We take music seriously," Mullen Said. "But the website
and what we do is all in good fun."

------------
We want to give a shout out to the author, who happens to be a flute
player (yuck), but she is still pretty cool, and she really "gets"
TrumpetBoredom.
And, hey, if YOU want to interview TrumpetBoredom for your paper, give
me an e-mail! We are always up for publicity!
9-18-06 - TrumpetBoredom - In the PAPER?!?
I got interviewed for a school paper. And while it's not the New Yorker,
I'll take it...and I am really amazed and imrpessed that someone would
want to interview me for a paper. We're famous!
So, those of you reading from the Saddleback Lariat... Hey. Welcome.
Some of you remember our CD project... and some of you will remember
the update from last month where I went into great detail about it.
Well, I sent the demo files of just the background tracks that CW and
I did to Joe... and he decided to layer the rest of the parts out for
your enjoyment! So, pretend that you are in your car after going to
your local record store and paying your bribe for the last copy of the
TrumpetBoredom CD that has already gone double platinum... you pop it
into your CD and hear....Fraggle
Rock.
And, since we may have a few more listeners this week, I'll double up
on our new songs posted. This is another song from our live show on
Labor Day... and this is my favorite out of all of the songs we did
that day. A drummer really makes this song work 10x better: Dance
Dance Dance live. Special thanks to my Uncle Jeff for rockin out
with us.
At the end of this song there is a bit of a tag... my Uncle Keith (who
is practically deaf) was rocking out to our music (maybe it's better
when you're deaf) and at the end he points to my Uncle Jeff and tells
him he is out of tune. ... I guess you had to be there.
9-8-06 - TrumpetBoredom - I'm Verbose
The live gig went great. We had about 20 extra people show up for this
family party just because I brought the band. The show went great, and
I'll post the tunes as Joe sends them to me... which, might be forever,
because he is busy and lazy at the same time.
Here is a song from our latest live show... which, is kind of the same
as our other recordings, but with a different sound and will occasionally
include a drummer. This tune is actually in memory of my late Step-Dad,
as it was his favorite song. Even though I knew it wouldn't work for
TB , I asked Joe to write it out anyway, and he wrote a brilliant version
of it. And, if you listen to the first 3 bars OUTSTANDING pyramids (which
we are known for sucking at) you will know why I like this song. Anything
after that is hit or miss. I still think it is a very successful foray
into the Country Music Genre.
What do ya know? Wayne
updated his site! Apparantly Stallone always thought Maynard's sound
on the soundtrack was the voice of Rocky. I agree. Plus, the Big Phat
Band is doing the score for a new Looney Tunes Movie?!?!? Sweet!...
oh, and his CD has been put off til January for marketing reasons. I
!@#$ing HATE MARKETERS! If you happen to be a marketer, leave this website
and never return. You are the scum of the Earth, and I
personally hate you.
ps. do you really read what I write, or do you just look for Red
words?
9-2-06 - TrumpetBoredom - Back to...
Normal?
You know, September is a really hard month for me now. As some of you
might remember, my step-dad passed away last September right before
Labor Day. So, I'm always kind of funky around this time of year. Plus,
as luck would have it, school is kicking my ass, and we had a slab leak
under my room, so I've been "evicted" for about a week. I
just finished re-painting it. Throw the death of one of my hero's and
well... there hasn't been a update.
But, now it's time to get back into the swing on things.
....And, I want to change the world.
I want everyone to go to this website, the
Rain Forest Site, and click the button. Then I want you to go to
our myspace account
and e-mail us. I figure there is between 11.2 and 11.4 square feet per
click... so, I will multiply whatever the total is at the end of the
weekend by 11.4. And, that territory will now be called 'TB Forest'...
and it will be dedicated to all things trumpet. At least to us.
Admit it, I'm a visionary.
And now... a NEW TUNE! This is another vocal parody written by Joe.
It is to the tune of one of the best Monthy Python Songs... EVER. It
is CW and I singing... "Always
Play On the High Side of the Horn!"
This song will forever be known as the song that took 2 years off of
Byro's career. Listen and you'll find out why.
Oh, and we have a live gig on Monday. Really! We'll record it, too.
So we should have tons of new stuff for you in the coming weeks.
8-25-06 - TrumpetBoredom - RIP Walter
"Maynard" Ferguson
When I woke up early Thursday morning I checked my usual websites. Some
webcomics, a few news sites, a blog or two that is usually updated by
7am when I wake up... then I checked the Maynard
webforum... Recently I saw a post mentioning how Maynard had been under
doctor's orders to cancel all of his September shows. I commented that
it was normal at Maynard's age for a doctor to tell him to slow down
only a day prior... then I saw the post stating that he had passed.
My heart started to race... I was in shock. Maynard has always been
a hero to me, not just because of his amazing ability, but for his amazing
work with students as well. He is one of the few great preformers out
there, and I am so glad I had the oppritunity to see him live, shake
his hand, and stay for the second set. I still remember that night,
Joe, Byro and I sat literally 4 feet in front of the trumpet section,
and we were under the trombone player's slide. And Maynard was feeling
it. Double E Flat right in the first song.
Then there was the historic Stratospheric, which both Byro and CW got
to play at, and I had the honor of attending (at a nominal, but well
worth it, fee). Hearing all of those alumni give it their all to impress
the Boss was something I will NEVER forget.
I was thinking of a song I could post from Stratospheric or from my
personal library of Maynard recordings. But Maynard was never a fan
of people downloading his music without paying (as I am sure we could
all understand).
So
instead, I'll just leave you with one of my favorite Maynard quotes.
"The Trumpet is truly God's instrument."
Move over, Gabriel... you're on second now. (As someone so succiently
put it)
ps. I heard of a high school trumpet section that was going to play
TAPS normally, then up an octave, in Maynard's honor. I'd love to hear
what it sounded like. Please e-mail me.
8-15-06 - TrumpetBoredom - Oops, I Did
it Again...
You know, for a history major, I sure am bad at remembering when TB
actually started. This is the third year in a row I've forgotten our
birthday until mid-August. Now, looking at my records, the first recording
session was on 9-1-02. However, it conflicts with other information
I have. Wow. This is weird... I don't even really remember exactly when
TB started... did we record that first time we met in August?... did
we really meet in August, or was it September 1st? Crud.
Anyway, I know TB.com started in the middle of September, because that's
when my domain registration is due.
So, we are going to celebrate our 4
year anniversary!!!!! early!
So here is some stuff we've never released... ever.
1. There are a few tunes that Joe has finished that we've never
done for various reasons. Now, using the power of mp3 conversions from
Finale, I will now allow you to hear
them.
In order:
Back to the Future, Blue Moon, Clair de Lune, I Would Walk 500 Miles,
So Happy Together, Dawn, Fox Sports Football, Don't Wanna Miss a Thing,
James Bond, Hey Jude AWESOME ending, Clair de Lune ending. (~ 11 minutes)
2. We used to think we were popular, and had a first run at making
TB shirts. Check them out: Haven't seen that Asian guy in years? Yeah, neither
have we.
Only 10 were ever made. And I bought all 10 and handed them out as Christmas
gifts. I bought a hat, too. No, really.
3. Remember when TB had that ill-fated CD attempt back in late
2003? No? Well, our idea was to record 16 of our favorite songs, plus
some songs that were WAY too hard to do live (at the time, we've done
some since). We had a problem because Joe was in another state when
we tried to record it. And this was our first attempt layering songs.
And... well, we gave up after 2 weekends of work. But, this is one song
we worked on but I never showed you.. one list will tell you why: A
Whole New World. Notice, this is just CW and I, and no one else.
Now you can hear my terrible playing exposed. Yuck.
... please don't judge me for that. It was a first take. I think...
hope...
4. If you play the Rubber
Duckie vocal backwards you can clearly hear Joe saying, "Matt
is dead." Really.
5. I know our Myspace page is old news... but, if you really
want to know the exact SECOND I update TB, this is the place to go.
I also post news, previews, and more. So please, be our friend?
6. Hey, have you checked out that sounds
page lately? Over 200 tunes! I know you haven't listened to them all.
Get crackin!
x. I was going to put up more... but, I want you to have a reason
to come back.
I want to give a special shout out to the people that have helped made
TB happen: Ryan Sootenboygen, our logo designer. I still get comments
on it all the time. You did an amazing job. Our 4th trumpet players:
Jet Li, Ben, Josh, obby, and Carlos. And of course, the main guys...
Joe - TB wouldn't exist without you. The amount of work you've
put in to make TB happen amazes me whenever I go to the sounds page
or look at any finale file you've given me. TB is the highlight of my
personal music career, and I think if it didn't happen, I wouldn't be
playing trumpet at all anymore. So thanks for being my best friend and
for letting me be apart of our mark on the musical world.
Byro - If it wasn't for you breaking up with that chick, TB never
would have started in the first place. Thanks for always upping the
ante with another amazing high note.
Collin - Man, how you put up with 3 (sometimes 4) other trumpet
players amazes me. Thanks for sticking with us even when we all knew
you had other (but never better) things/gigs to do. TB wouldn't "work"
without you to balance us out, in my opinion. You're my best friend
(hey, I can have 2!) and I wouldn't be the person I am now without ya,
bro. Thanks for everything.
And of course, thanks to our tens of thousands of fans who check in
every month to make sure we're still alive. Thanks for making us popular!
We have TONS more coming, so keep checking back!
8-5-06 - TrumpetBoredom - Peace of Hind
I'm back from vacation, and I want to make sure I keep regular updates
going until school starts in...ugh... 3 weeks.
Today's song is another song by the rock group Boston - Peace
of Mind. This is a 6 trumpet song, which, I will admit, we multi-tracked.
The song only took us about 20 minutes to do, layering and all. Those
trumpet runs you hear in the 5th and 6th part are actually tom hits
in the original song. Joe rocks.
Wayne's CD has been pushed
back...again... to October 10th. Supposedly, this is the final date.
The good news is, it looks like he was in the studio with Maynard recording
a new Maynard CD with some old Maynard alumni. !@#$!!!!!!!!!!!!! -Matt Matt@TrumpetBoredom.com
7-26-05 - TrumpetBoredom
- Stuck on the Ceiling
I am going to make a big update today, because I'm going on vacation
(again!!) next week.
First and foremost, our latest recording. This song was considered the
500th greatest song of all time according to Rolling
Stone. And now, TrumpetBoredom has covered it! Maybe it will move
up into the top 100 now with its new popularity? Here it is: More
Than a Feeling.
Painful Trumpet Links
1. 13 year old plays Trumpet
Players Lullaby
2. Mr.
Rogers plays trumpet.
... why do you guys keep putting these videos on YouTube anyway? Do
you like being made fun of when you play poorly? We do. That's why we
started TB.
3. If you haven't heard of the Future
Corps, you're really not trying hard enough.
I have more, but I'm tired. Darn full time job!!!
7-19-06 - TrumpetBoredom - Rubber Duckie^4.5
So all the planets finally aligned and we were able to have a recording
session... and, in my mind, it was one of our best.
We have a new recording technique, and even though it has altered how
we record in some ways, I think our "sound" is still the same.
We now have the ability to "cut in" a song and multi-track
it cleanly... so, I guess I can no longer say our songs are 'live in
one take' now. Even though most of the time we make it more than halfway
through a song before we punch in, and we still record with 4 instruments
at a time.
Our new song is a version of Rubber
Duckie I don't think you've heard... mainly because I forgot to
put it up when we recorded it 13 months ago. Whoops. So, now you'll
get two versions over time. This song is the first time Byro has hit
a dubba C while we were recording "live." It was sick.
In honor of our latest recording session, I changed the title image.
I call the picture in the middle the "Let It Be" image. Which,
I suppose, is an extreme inside Beatles reference taken out of context
that only two of you will understand. We can share a good laugh now.
Actually, Joe couldn't count to 6.
7-13-06 - TrumpetBoredom - Random
I think my job here at TrumpetBoredom goes far beyond just trying to
culture you guys with awesome music. I think my job here is to also
force you to like the things I like, too. So, here are some more links...
yes, we will record soon, I promise.
1. We can't all be the Tasteebros.
2. Wayne's CD will be titled "Plays Well With Others" and
will be released August 22nd. I have a live recording of one of the
tracks... but, the band he played with was really tired and it does
not do ther song justice at all.
Okay, NON-Trumpet stuff:
1. You can buy the second best movie ever (behind Three Amigos, which
you should already own) on DVD on Ebay: Robin
Hood - Men in Tights. Mine is in the mail.
2. Buy books by these authors: -Simon
R Green -Jim
Butcher -Stephan
Pastis
3. If a story like this doesn't affect you, there is something
wrong with you. (launch the video). This was the top sports performance
of the year, according to the ESPYs. Oh, wait, that doesn't air until
Sunday. Forget I said that.
4. I turn 23 in just over 2 weeks. I expect thousands of e-mails.
5. You will ALL buy this
game when it comes out.
... yes, I'm stalling until we record. Hopefully on Tuesday!!!! If we
record, something new WILL be put up that night.
ps. TB - The Music Video will be coming soon!
7-4-06
- TrumpetBoredom - Est. 1776.
Anyone who has visited this site over the past few years knows that
I am a history major. That being known, those same people would probably
tell you that the 4th of July is my FAVORITE holiday. Really.
Think about it: We get to make fun of the British, Drink Beer, Blow
Stuff Up, and all of the music features trumpets!! What more could you
possibly want?!?!?
So, in order to celebrate this holiday... here is some stuff I dug up!
1. Are all musicans ugly? Not according to this
website. Only 2 "hot" trumpet players, though.
2. Live Buddy
Rich recordings.
3. The best trumpet transcriptions
page you'll ever find.
4. TB on MySpace has over 200
members. Are you one of them?
5. I don't know what this is as I haven't read it, but the title rocks:
The
First Blast of the Trumpet against the monstrous regiment of Women
by Knox
6. Admit it, you know you want to
marry her. (video)
If you're an American, support it. If you're not, respect it. If you can't
do that, click the red x in the upper right hand corner and don't bother
coming back, hippy.
6-27-06 - TrumpetBoredom - Happy Birthday
CW!!!
Wow. Our own resident bari-sax player is now 23. Which means I turn 23
in a month. Yikes! Anyway, happy birthday to the best bari-sax player
in the Land, Collin!!!
So, you guys didn't pray enough, or maybe you prayed to the wrong god,
and now the recording session for Friday has been cancelled. Thanks for
NOTHING, guys! Jeeze!
Does this mean that TB is going to have an implosion like the Beatles
and never record again? Who knows. But, probably not. Even if I have to
multi-track the parts myself, there will be new stuff posted on TB.com
soon! (Really pray it doesn't come to that!!!)
In fact, I'll post a new song right now as an act of good faith. We like
to take songs twice as fast. It usually happens when CW decides his bassline
is too slow, or too difficult... so he speeds it up. We did it again with
Dance
Dance Dance. Check it out.
ps. TB would be easier to organize if we got paid. ;-)
6-20-06 - TrumpetBoredom - She Came in
Through the Bathroom Window
So, GG's CD came out. It rocks... but so far
I'm not feeling it as much as I did XXL. Byro agrees. Don't get me wrong,
I still love it... but it is missing something. And I don't know what.
Maybe it's the fact that Wayne isn't playing lead on 4 of the tunes (An
American Elegy, Count Bubba's Revenge, Whodunnit, and La Almeja Pequena),
maybe it's because Take 6 didn't do that hot of a job on "It was
a Very Good Year" ... who knows.
Hunting Wabbits 2 only took Gordon 45 minutes to write out. Sick. See,
you get this kind of info when you listen to audio commentaries.
Okay, this update has been kind of disjointed.
All the TB guys are back home, and I need every single one of you to hope
and pray that we can get a session together on June 30th. I mean it, getting
all 4 of us on the same schedule is rough, so please, help us make it
happen.
6-10-06 - TrumpetBoredom - Yo Momma
Likes it When we Play High!
Remember that big announcement I promised today? Yeah... funny thing
is, I haven't figured out how it is going to work yet. Incidentally,
if you live near us and have a PO box you don't mind people having the
address to, give me an e-mail...
But, as a cop out, I have a new tune for you!!! Joe wrote this out a
while ago, and it seemed kind of hard. You know, with all the double
tounging on bari-sax and everything. So, we never recorded it for fear
of sucking (like that has ever stopped us before... ahem). But, Joe
wanted to give it a shot on his own while he was tinkering with Garage
Band, so he multitracked himself. So, here it is: Tetris,
TB Style. Or, well, Joe Style. Listen to that MIDI bari-sax goodness.
Speaking of Joe, he wrote a tune for his teacher to play at ITG. And,
she did. Looks like it got a lot of good
reviews, too. Go Joe!
Gordon Goodwin's CD comes
out on Tuesday. You better be in line to buy it. Check out his site
for a new video demo of the CD. Yes, video demo.
6-1-06 - TrumpetBoredom - Vacation
Hey kids.. I'm taking the next week off. I'll be out of town. So this
is what you need to know until I get back:
4. I left space because this important. TB is going to hold a contest.
It involves that special announcement I posted a few weeks ago, but
have not announced...yet. Some of our more brilliant readers (ie, non-trumpet
players) might have gotten the hint already. Well, you'd still be off.
Before I announce the contest, I will tell you the prize: A TB song
of your choice (from a list, heh heh)... potentially more stuff
as the ideas come to me. Really. We're breaking our own rules here.
Why? I don't know.
The information on the contest will be posted on June
10th, so make sure to check back with us then.
If you want a T-shirt, I'd set up a PayPal
account...because they will be coming. Note, I don't know the price,
but at TB we are not out to make a profit at all, so whatever I charge
will be 100% at cost. These shirts will be high quality, too. I made
ours back in December 03, and the rubber duckie has not faded, crumbled,
or anything. I'm still amazed. The shirt is awesome.
5-28-06 - TrumpetBoredom - School's
Out, For Summer!
Yes, it is finally over... for this semester. Now that Joe (essentially),
Byro, CW and myself are all done with this semester, TB is gonna start
moving forward again. We've got 3 recording sessions planned, plus a
live show... and that's just for the summer.
Joe's already written out his first tune, and I've sent him about 10
more to consider. Now is the time for YOU to request songs! So please
send them in!
Check out Amazon. Gordon Goodwin's
new CD is up, with 1 minute clips of every song! My speakers are broken,
so I can't hear the songs in their intended 6.1 digital stereo way just
yet... but I am sure the mixing will be awesome.
We are considering making T-shirts again. Please vote in this poll so
I can get an idea if people would really want them or not. It's all
part of this big announcement I am planning.
